Adriaan Coetser
Adriaan Coetser obtained the qualifications BA, BA (Hons), THED, BEd, MA (cum laude), DLitt et Phil, and a diploma in Advanced Management Skills. He has about 45 years’ experience in the education sector. In 2005, he was appointed as External Moderator under Umalusi for the Grade 12 final examinations for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and in the years thereafter for the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) and the Independent Examination Board (IEB).

Miranda Jonas, who holds BA and STD qualifications, is a Subject Advisor for Afrikaans Home Language (HL) and First Additional Language (FAL) and Examiner for Afrikaans FAL. She serves as an Internal Moderator for Afrikaans FAL in the Western Cape Education Department and has developed a variety of PowerPoint presentations currently used in schools. She is also involved in the writing of lessons for Afrikaans HL and FAL (Grades 8-12) and the presentation of lessons via MS Teams and Zoom for Grade 12 teachers and learners.

Princess Bembe is a lecturer in the Department of English Studies at UNISA. She lectures in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (literature and English language studies) and also works for Umalusi as an External Moderator for English First Additional Language (FAL). Her research interests include African literature in English, sociolinguistics (particularly urban youth languages), multilingualism, English as an additional language, and English across the curriculum.

Piet Masilela – currently an External Moderator of isiNdebele under Umalusi – started his career as an educator with the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, later becoming a deputy principal. He was appointed as Subject Advisor of isiNdebele in the Mpumalanga Province and has participated in the development of the outcomes-based education (OBE) and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) policies representing isiNdebele. He introduced isiNdebele at the University of Venda, where he served as a lecturer, and has also presented academic papers and published a series of grammar books.

Pumla Maqhude
Pumla Maqhude holds a PhD in isiXhosa and has an extensive track record teaching isiXhosa Home Language (HL) to Grade 10-12 learners. She is currently a lecturer at the University of the Western Cape, teaching Method of isiXhosa to pre-service teachers. She is engaged in projects that promote the teaching and learning of isiXhosa.

Nonhlanhla Maphumulo is an educator with extensive knowledge of teaching isiZulu Home Language (HL) and First Additional Language (FAL). She received her BA and BEd (Hons) at the University of Zululand, MEd at the University of the Free State and a Higher Education Diploma at the University of South Africa. She worked as a lecturer at the University of Zululand and as a tutor for BEd (Hons) students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Pietermaritzburg campus). She has participated as one of the contributors in a book for teacher training and has experience in the setting and moderation of isiZulu question papers.

Dr Isaac Mndawe is an Examiner and Moderator for both high schools and colleges, currently lecturing on isiZulu to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Johannesburg. He holds a Senior Secondary Teachers Certificate (SSTC) from the Transvaal Teachers Training College, BA, BA (Hons), MA from the University of Pretoria and a DLitt et Phil from the University of Johannesburg. He has worked as a senior lecturer and Head of Department at the South African College for Teacher Education (SACTE).

Vinolia Refiloe Masha is a woman with a passion for the development of African languages in general and Sepedi in particular. She has 35 years’ experience in teaching, of which 22 were spent as Head of Department of Languages. She has extensive knowledge of examinations and was a Sepedi Examiner and Internal Moderator for the Mpumalanga Province. Her academic credentials include a BA, HED, BEd and BA (Hons) in Sepedi, and she is busy with her MA. She is currently an Umalusi External Moderator.

Sedie Monamodi holds a BEd specialising in Setswana and History and a BEd (Hons) in Educational Management from North West University. She started her teaching career as a high school teacher for Setswana, History and Business Economics, before being promoted to Departmental Head of Setswana. She has served as a Setswana Home Language (HL) Subject Advisor for the FET phase (Grades 10-12) in North West and was also one of the Subject Advisors who took part in screening Setswana literature books for Grades 10-12 nationally.

Seanokeng Sehume-Hlakoana is employed by Umalusi as an External Moderator for Setswana First Additional Language (FAL). Her qualifications include a Dip Ed (Secondary) from Strydom College of Education, Further Education Diploma from Rand Afrikaans University, and BA (Hons) in Setswana Prose from North West University. She further acquired a National Certificate in Occupationally Directed Education Training and Development Practices. She worked as a Departmental Head at a high school for five official languages before being appointed as a Setswana Subject Advisor FET (Grade 10-12) in the North West Province.

Nthabiseng Gada is an expert in Sesotho Home Language (HL) education. She specialises in literature and works as the Head of Department for African Languages (Sesotho, Setswana and Sepedi) at a secondary school in Kagiso. She's the Chief Examiner (national), an Internal Moderator (provincial), and a published author of Sesotho learners’ textbooks and teachers’ guides. She has served the SABC as a freelance translator and presenter for Sesotho genres, conducts educational roadshows across Gauteng, and assists multiple publishing houses by facilitating workshops for educators.

His qualifications include a BA, HED (Postgraduate), BA (Hons), MA and PHD in Siswati. He has lectured in Siswati at Mgwenya College of Education and has been employed as a Subject Advisor. From 2005 to 2014, he served as an Examiner for Siswati for the Department of Basic Education.

Julia Nedzharata currently serves as an External Moderator and Subject Advisor for Tshivenda in Gauteng. Her qualifications include an STD, BEd and HED. She developed National Curriculum Statement and Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) documents that are currently used at schools and has been employed as a teacher and language examiner. She is a material developer and author of Tshivenda luambo lwanga na inwi, which is currently used at schools as a reference book.

She has experience in the setting of Xitsonga question papers as an Examiner and Internal Moderator for the Gauteng Department of Education and in marking Xitsonga as a marker, Chief Marker and Internal Moderator.

He holds a BPEd and BA (Hons) in Xitsonga and has experience as a marker, Senior Marker and Deputy Chief Marker for the National Senior Certificate. He is a coordinator for Xitsonga in the Nkowankowa circuit, responsible for the setting and moderation of question papers for Grades 10-12, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in African languages.
