AVBOB STEP 12 bolsters self-confidence
Now in its second year, the AVBOB STEP 12 programme – supported by the Department of Basic Education – is geared to empower Grade 12 learners to approach the matric exams with confidence and give them an advantage to improve their final marks.
The AVBOB STEP 12 programme offers FREE Examination Preparation Guides tailored to the needs of learners. The content aligns with the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) so learners can approach their exams with confidence and gain valuable skills that will be of use for the rest of their lives.
Examinations are a source of stress and anxiety, but they are also a valuable opportunity to assess one’s knowledge and growth. Self-confidence plays a pivotal role in exam performance.
The AVBOB STEP 12 programme ties in with AVBOB’s aim of empowering South Africa’s youth through strategic social impact initiatives. “Our educational initiatives are designed to create a variety of learning opportunities that support South African youth,” says Adriaan Bester, AVBOB Executive: Funeral Products & Services. “Each programme, while distinct in its focus, is part of a cohesive strategy aimed at developing well-rounded individuals equipped for future success.”
The purpose of the AVBOB STEP 12 Examination Preparation Guides is to enable teachers and learners to see the bigger picture of examination preparation and set goals for success. “After proper classroom preparation, the guides can assist learners in understanding the exam environment better and steering the prepared work in a focused direction that will result in increased self-confidence and focus,” says Princess Bembe, AVBOB STEP 12 English Subject Advisor.
This focused direction includes a proper understanding of the time allocated per question, the required format of the answers, and the marks awarded per question.
Since Grade 12 teachers play a crucial role in shaping each learner’s academic year, AVBOB STEP 12 offers teachers crucial support. The AVBOB STEP 12 Examination Preparation Guides can help educators stay on track with their classes during the year, providing consistency throughout the matric year. The best part is that learners and teachers can work through the guides alongside the curriculum to supplement learning and enhance understanding.

Background: AVBOB STEP 12 programme
AVBOB launched AVBOB STEP 12, a nationwide language programme for Grade 12 learners and teachers, as a way of supporting our country’s educators so that they can focus on what they do best: inspiring young minds and guiding them towards success.
In total, 33 Examination Preparation Guides – each meticulously compliant with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) and written in accordance with the most recent Examination Guidelines – were made available at no cost to Grade 12 learners, teachers and interested parties.
Three guides were developed (one guide for each of the language examination papers) in all 11 official written languages to assist learners in preparing for the language examination papers. The guides are not designed as study guides, nor as examination guides (although they are in more than one way linked to these orientations), but as preparation guides – an aspect of assessment that is often neglected but is of crucial importance for learners to achieve their full potential.
The AVBOB STEP 12 programme offers fresh ideas to make an even bigger impact on matric classes. Visit www.avbobstep12.co.za to download the guides for FREE.
